Car Seats Can be Dangerous OUTSIDE the Car!
When you carry your baby out of the car in the carseat, be sure to place the seat on a hard surface and on a floor! A new study in the July 5th issue of Pediatrics reports that more than 43,000 babies have been injured by car seats that are used outside of the car. Most of these injuries were to infants younger than four months old.
The article says that babies fell out of the car seats, the car seats fell from elevated surfaces or the seats overturned onto soft surfaces. The study stresses the importance of keeping the car seats on hard surfaces at floor level to reduce the risk of injuries.
